Elected with the Widest Margin of Victory
Having a broad base of support, Judge King was elected in November 2002 with the widest margin of victory of any state or local candidate in Jefferson County.
Prior to his election, he had served as Circuit Judge since April 2001, having been appointed to fill the vacancy created when former Circuit Judge Tom Woodall was elected to the Alabama Supreme Court.
Graduate of the National Judicial College
Judge King is a 2003 graduate of the General Jurisdiction Course conducted by the National Judicial College at the University of Nevada, the premier judicial training center in the world.
Honored by Young Lawyers
In 2002, the Young Lawyers Section of the Birmingham Bar Association presented Judge King with the Judge Drayton Noble James Award. Given annually, this award honors the state or federal judge who is a model of the legacy of friendship the late Judge James showed to practicing young lawyers in Jefferson County.
This was a particularly cherished honor for Judge King for two reasons: he was a close friend of Judge James, having served with him for many years on the Board of Directors of the Aletheia House; and, as a young lawyer, Judge King was President of the Alabama State Bar Young Lawyers Section, 1981-1982.
A Leader Among His Peers
Judge King was appointed by the Alabama Supreme Court to be a member of the Standing Committee on Alabama Rules of Judicial Administration, which facilitates the orderly administration of justice throughout the Alabama Court System. He is also a member of the Judicial Education Committee, which is responsible for planning continuing education for all the circuit and district judges in Alabama.
