Judge King has always given back to his community, from the time he attained Eagle Scout at the age of 13, to his 30 years as a member of the board of directors of Aletheia House, a nationally recognized drug prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation program. Among his many other areas of service are the following:

• Boy Scouts of America, Greater Alabama Council, Executive Board Member, 2009; Advisory Board Member, 2008.
• Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce. Board member, 2004-2007, and honored as Board Member of the Year in 2005.
• American Red Cross, Birmingham Chapter. Board member, 2002-2008. Served as Chairman of the Audit Committee and was a member of the Executive Committee and Human Resources Committee.
• Fellowship of Christian Athletes, North Central Alabama, Board Member since 2002; Executive Committee, 2009; Chair, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Breakfast, 2009; Vice Chair, 2004.
• Rotary International, Member of the Vestavia Hills Rotary Club since 1996.
