A Vietnam Veteran, among his many military honors, Judge King was awarded the Bronze Star for service to his country.

He continued his military service in the Alabama Army National Guard, commanding soldiers at group and battalion levels for 66 ½ months. He was a 1996 graduate of the U.S. Army War College, and a 1992 graduate of the Air War College.

In 2000, he achieved the rank of Brigadier General, and was Deputy Commanding General of the 167th Theater Support Command in Birmingham from 2001 until his retirement in 2003. Upon his retirement, he was awarded the Legion of Merit.

Judge King continues his commitment to service to his country as a member of the following:

  • Vietnam Veterans of America
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars
  • The American Legion
  • National Guard Association of the United States
  • Marine Corps League, Associate Member
